Download PreFix

Enter the download password you were given. The newest version is served automatically.

Windows: about 280 MB · Windows 10/11, 64-bit

Installing on Windows

  1. Enter the password and click Download for Windows.
  2. Double-click the downloaded PreFix-Setup file.
  3. Windows SmartScreen will say "Windows protected your PC". This is expected; see the note below.
  4. Walk through the installer (Next, Install, Finish). Accept the sensor driver prompt when it appears.
  5. Open PreFix from the Start menu.
About the SmartScreen warning: PreFix isn't code-signed yet, so Windows warns about any installer it doesn't recognize. Click More info, then Run anyway. Only install PreFix from this page.

Installing on Mac

  1. Enter the password and click Download for Mac.
  2. Open the downloaded disk image and drag PreFix into Applications.
  3. Open PreFix. The first time, macOS will say it can't verify the app. This is expected; see the note below.
  4. For Jeff Carmen's pIR HEG headset, install the sensor driver: Phidget22 for macOS.
About the "Apple could not verify" message: PreFix isn't notarized with Apple yet. Click Done, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click Open Anyway next to the PreFix line. Confirm with your password or Touch ID. After that it opens normally. If macOS instead says the app is "damaged", open Terminal and run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/PreFix.app, then open it again.
